I wasn’t sure why the event organizers decided on a Wizard of Oz themed square dance event…until I discovered that the main organizer had found a pair of red pumps in mens size 12 and was busy gluing sequins on them. I chose flat, line work illustrations and a storybook style to reference the illustrations used in the original books and made Toto the star.
Another movie themed dance event for Puddletown Squares. The type on the logo is based on the type from the orginal Singing in the Rain movie posters.
I was the event organizer for this event as well as doing all the design work. In addition to the web site and promotional materials which included postcards, registration forms, brochures, t-shirts POP displays, I also coordinated all of the hiring of the callers and assisted in the management of the volunteers.
The organizers of this event had a penchant for bad puns and double entendre. The year before I had a geoduck to work with in developing the logo and collateral for the event. In 2005, the theme was inspired by the song “Wet Dream” as featured on the Dr. Demento show. The trick with themes like this is to have a lot of fun with them while trying not to offend anyone (much).
.
I also created graphics for the 2016 Rain Festival, but the organizers went with clip-art umbrellas instead.
