Book cover for Dave Morrison's Angakok. The challenge with this book cover was that the author describes it as a metaphysical thriller, so while in form the story is much like a supernatural thriller, all the standard visual cues from the supernatural world were off the table. While the symbolism of the book on the table, the library, and silver cord may not communicate immediately with the main audience for the book—the readers of supernatural thrillers—the creepy dark of the library and the violence of the knife in the book will let them know this is the sort of book they like to read. On the technical side, the illustration was done in Cinema 4d r16, so I had to do some fancy stuff with the mograph tools and the mograph shaders to make each book in the library unique without my having to apply a separate texture to each book. I also created promotional banners to advertise the book ahead of its launch.
